Cyclone Chapter of SHRM 2024 Goals & Objectives

    SHRM Dual Membership Growth

To maintain a chapter in good standing with SHRM, we believe it is important to continue to grow our national membership. National membership provides many resources for HR professionals.

    • Promote national SHRM membership by sharing SHRM benefits at each monthly chapter meeting.
    • Purchase one national membership for a Cyclone SHRM member at membership appreciation meeting.
    • Increase SHRM Dual Membership by 5% or 6 new members by 12/31/2024.
    • Contact new attendees after each meeting to discuss SHRM benefits.
    • Have reached a 85% Retention membership goal by 12/31/2024.

    Membership Development

Our members are the heart of our chapter. By growing the chapter membership, encouraging involvement and focusing on enhancing programming we will provide more value to the local HR community.

    • Promote membership in National SHRM and HR certification at monthly meetings.
    • Focus on retention of current members through value-enhancing programming and email communication regarding upcoming meetings. Efforts result in a 3% increase in attendance from prior year average. Utilize a member survey to improve attendance.
    • Develop methods to enhance networking by building a community within our membership through the utilization of social media platforms (LinkedIn).

    Community Outreach

Our members represent employers throughout Central Iowa. One way to show the value of the HR profession is to partner with and support other non-profit organizations.

    • Promote the human resources profession and business development by partnering with community organizations, area high schools and community colleges.
    • Partner with the ISU Alumni Association to provide a résumé critique service for ISU Alumni.
    • Hold in-person networking events where HR Professionals can socialize and get ideas.

    College Relations

In order to expose the next generation of HR leaders to the profession, we will partner with the Iowa State University student SHRM chapter.

    • Arrange, facilitate and provide speakers for at least one meeting each year for the ISU student chapter of SHRM. Assist with chapter needs.
    • Provide financial assistance to the student SHRM chapter by paying the Student National SHRM Memberships for each student in the chapter.
    • Partner with student chapter to provide professional HR mentors to create an ongoing mentor program for students.

    SHRM Foundation

The SHRM Foundation provides valuable research and services for the HR profession. We feel it is important to promote their work and to provide financial support.

    • Increase yearly SHRM Foundation donation by 2% over previous year or plan and execute an event to promote the SHRM Foundation and the value it provides to our profession.
    • Promote and encourage individual donations from the chapter leadership and members to the SHRM Foundation
